Drug Adherence Monitoring Device
An estimated third to one-half of patients in the US do not take their medication as prescribed by their doctor. Poor drug adherence can adversely affect treatment and leads to sub-optimal clinical outcomes. For treatment of HIV in developing countries, the challenge of poor drug adherence is exacerbated by strong societal pressures and less effective education. We hope to develop a low-cost device suitable for deployment in a research setting in a developing country, that is capable of unobtrusively measuring adherence to pill-based medication.
